Uptown Fibers opened in October, 2008 as a full-service yarn shop featuring classic and luxury yarns along with a selection of patterns, books, buttons, unique ready-made fiber art clothing and accessories. The 2,100 sq. ft. store is furnished with soft contemporary furniture and fixtures, and has plenty of room for browsing with comfy sit & knit nooks situated around the store. A separate classroom allows students (and teachers) space and privacy while customers can have a look at what's going on through the pass-through window. Individually made gourmet coffee, tea and cocoa is complimentary, along with chilled spring water and quite often the cookie plate is filled with something sweet and yummy!

Uptown Fibers stocks yarn from well-known manufacturers such as Berroco, Crystal Palace, Cascade, Dale of Norway, Sirdar, and many others. For the fashion-forward knitter (and those who are seeking the truly luxury fibers) we stock Anny Blatt yarns and patterns, as well as Trendsetter, ArtYarns, and Debbie Bliss to name only a few. We strive to introduce the new trends, while keeping a stock of "staple" yarns for every-day knitting, crocheting and other fiber arts. The shop is committed to helping the beginning and average-skilled knitter/crocheter; to help them build a solid knowledge in their basic skills, and then support them through free advice, in-shop construction help, as well as structured classes and seminars. For the advanced knitter/crocheter, our staff is ready and able to help them with complex and custom projects.
The stocking philosophy of Uptown Fibers is to be a "sweater shop". That means that I purchase "deep" in 5 to 7 colors of most yarns so that at least a couple sweaters can be made from one color of a yarn, instead of purchasing lots of colors of the yarn type, but in limited quantity where if a few skeins are taken for a scarf or shawl, there is not enough for an adult sweater.

The other shop philosophy is to always be bringing in something new, which means I will probably not be re-stocking certain yarn or certain colors as they are sold out. And, Uptown Fibers will purposely try NOT stock yarns that are sold at nearby LYS so that the knitting/crocheting community has a vast and diverse selection of fibers to choose from, among all shops in the area. So, when you are shop-hopping, I hope you find new and exciting treasures at each place you stop!
