The Knitting Room opened in San Jose, CA, in about 1960. The current owners, Mary Ann and Ed Barrall, bought it in November, 1991. The previous owner wanted to retire and the store would close if no one bought it. Mary Ann had just retired and finally had time to knit but her yarn store would not be there! So, even though she knew nothing about retail (not even how to operate a cash register), she bought the store.
When Ed retired in 1996 he started helping in the store, too. He learned to crochet as a child and Mary Ann taught him how to knit. And he is a very good teacher!
Mary Ann and Ed have expanded the product lines and carry a good mix of high end, fancy and basic yarns. They also have a large inventory of books and leaflets.
