Skeins On Main originally opened at 424 S Main St, just two doors down from our current location. The shop was 950 square feet, and within 9 months the owners at that time, Kristine Clever-Scheuer and Dhurat Rosinski, decided they needed a larger space. Only two doors away, an art gallery was closing. The location was perfect for their dream yarn shop. With hunter green walls and floor and spotlights on the walls, the yarn would be highlighted perfectly. And thus… They moved the shop.
In February, 2008, Dhurat left the store, leaving Kristine as sole owner. During 2008, Kristine decided she really felt more compelled to knit and be creative, possibly writing another book, than to run the business end of it. So she sold it to long-time employee Lori Sheffield and her father, George Ash, on January 1, 2009. Kristine still teaches at the store and works on the floor occasionally, helping customers make yarn selections and correcting their mistakes.
The current store is 2500 square feet of pure yarn paradise! The needle wall alone is always stocked full of Addi Turbos, Addi Lace Turbos, Addi Naturas, and KA Classic Bamboo needles. And for sock knitters, we also carry the Pony rosewood double-pointed needles. We’re currently working on building up our yarn selections for the spring and plan to heavily stock Rowan, Shepherd’s Wool, and Tahki’s Cotton Classic, among many, many others.
