Not unlike Wal-Mart and Michael’s, Hannah’s stharted out as a Ben Franklin Store in 1961. The original store was 6,000 sq. ft. located in downtown Antioch, Illinois. It was owned by Chester Dubas, who had 5 other Ben Franklin’s. In 1963 Chester’s son, Brad asked Don Marski if he would like to work for a couple of weeks to expand the store. Don had nothing happening so he agreed. Working through the remainder of High school and college at “The Ben" provided Don with gas money. After college, with no particular direction, Don went to work full time at Chester’s store in Lake Geneva Wis.

In 1977 he transferred down to Antioch to run the new 30,000 sq. ft. Ben Franklin Family Center which was located across the street from the original store in downtown Antioch. In 1985 Chester decided to retire and sold the Antioch store to Don and Jane Marski. They saw the emergence of K-Mart and eventually Wal-Mart as variety store giants, and quickly converted their variety store into a specialty Craft Superstore and changed the name to Ben Franklin Home Accents, added a frame shop, custom floral shop, scrap booking, collectibles, and candles. By now the store employed 55 people and drew customers from Chicago, Milwaukee, and Rockford.

In 1994, corporate Ben Franklin, located in Carol Stream Illinois, filed for bankruptcy and went out of business. Not to be discouraged, the Marski’s changed the name of their store to Hannah’s Home Accents. Many product lines have changed over the years. Currently the store has a Paper Crafting dept. larger than most Craft stores, a frame shop with a state of the art computerized mat cutter, a candle shop, custom floral, home décor, a “Life Is Good" store within a store, an expanded “Vera Bradley" and “Pandora Jewelry" departments, and the most current fashions in “Women’s Accessories".

Along with their daughters Dana and Erin, [and before long their grandson Noah] the Marski’s continue to make Hannah’s “ The place to shop" in Northern Illinois.

Hannah's would like to express the utmost gratitude to all of our customers who have shopped with us over the years. We appreciate your business and thank you for your support!
