Dick and Wanda Maul were proud to serve their country as members of the United States Air Force for over 22 years. In 1978, while stationed in England, Wanda first learned about knitting machines and bought her very first machine, a Empisal Knitmaster. Empisal Knitmaster

She also joined a knitting club where she enjoyed learning all about knitting from her British friends as well as establishing everlasting friendships.

After returning to the States she took some classes and attended a large machine knitting seminar in Washington, D.C that was sponsored by the Millor Yarn Company, as well as several seminars held in Kansas City. While living in Ohio, Wanda started doing custom knitting and attending craft events and eventually opened a small home business, selling knitting machines, yarns as well as providing instruction.

As their children grew, Wanda created many one-of-a-kind outfits such as sweaters with school colors and sports motifs. She also designed and knit a lined blanket for her grandson’s graduation with his school colors, mascot and high school highlights. While the two youngest children attended Colorado State University, Wanda worked as an accountant and strayed away from the world of knitting. But soon after the company downsized Wanda decided to go back to her passion – fiber arts and instruction.

Deer Pants, L.L.C. offers a variety of classes that can be customized to each individual student, ensuring that as a student you will receive quality instruction. Wanda has over 30 years experience and loves to pass all of that knowledge on to willing students. Deer Pants, L.L.C. occasionally secures accomplished weavers & spinners as guest instructors for the weaving and spinning classes.

The Maul's live on ten acres and raise alpacas, so natural fibers and spinning have become a big part of their lives. Dick continues to take on small woodworking projects which are for sale in our brick and mortar store.

Our hope is that Deer Pants, L.L.C., will be a place of learning, friendships and an escape from the hustle and bustle of the world, even if for just a little while. Please feel free to contact us and let us know how we can help you on your journey!
